Gas industry workers and community partners from across Australia came together at Parliament House in Canberra on 14 October for Australian Gas Communities Day.

This is the second consecutive year Australian Energy Producers and member companies have held this event, bringing the gas industry and the regional communities that depend on it to Canberra to share their experiences directly with Parliamentarians.

The event brought together 34 delegates who participated in 30 individual meetings with Parliamentarians throughout the day, providing an opportunity for decision-makers to hear firsthand from the people who work in and alongside Australia's gas industry.

As well as member company workers, the delegation included farmers, Traditional Owners, local government representatives, contractors, plumbers, and community partners.

The delegation shared personal experiences of how the industry supports employment, local businesses, regional economies and reliable energy supply, reinforcing the industry's broader contribution to communities across Australia.

Strong engagement with Parliamentarians

The day also included a courtyard BBQ hosted by Australian Energy Producers and the Parliamentary Friends of Resources, co-chaired by Dan Repacholi MP and Jamie Chaffey MP.

The BBQ attracted more than 150 attendees, including dozens of Parliamentarians, providing another opportunity for industry workers and community representatives to connect with decision-makers.

Assistant Minister for Resources Senator Anthony Chisholm and Shadow Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Senator Susan McDonald met with the delegation and spoke at the BBQ, recognising the contribution of the gas industry and the communities it supports.

South Australian Senator Kerrynne Liddle also acknowledged the delegation in the Senate.

The strong engagement throughout the day highlighted the value of bringing workers and community partners directly to Canberra to share their stories and demonstrate the industry's contribution beyond the energy it produces.

Showcasing the people behind Australia's gas industry

Australian Gas Communities Day is an important part of Australian Energy Producers’ advocacy in Canberra to strengthen awareness among Parliamentarians of the critical role of natural gas in supporting regional communities, businesses and Australia's energy security.

Australian Energy Producers thanks the participating companies, workers and community representatives who travelled to Canberra to share their stories and help make Australian Gas Communities Day in 2026 a resounding success.
